✩#70 – 30 Day Gyaru Challenge Day 21✩

Day 21 – How did you come across gyaru?

As a kid, I mostly kept to myself and was never part of the popular crowd. I didn’t bother with the latest trends or anything as I was too into my hobbies. So that all may have contributed to never having found my style for a very long time. Not even when I was trying out Lolita back in 2010-2011.

Just like in Gyaru, there are a lot of substyles in Lolita and I was trying as many as possible. I read a lot of blogs and got into Gothic & Lolita Bible for inspo. But as I went through different blogs and clicked through what blogs they followed, I saw some very cute outfits from Liz Lisa, La Parfait and Yumetenbo.

Eventually all of the blogs I followed became mostly Gal blogs. Blogs like Hello Lizzie Bee, Rosie O’s, PiyoKo PiyoKo, Coco the Choco, Nino, etc.

That was about 2013-2014.

It was a lot harder back then to buy Japanese brands and you really had to search for things on ebay or hunt for a shopping service. But I bought my first Liz Lisa shoes and OP from Yumetenbo, I felt like this was going somewhere.

I had never even really touched makeup other than for school events or family outings before Gyaru. So you can imagine how shocked I was when trying to learn Gal makeup.

I saw more and more Gaijin Gals doing all sorts of amazing coords and eyemake, that I wanted to do my best too. I started getting EGG magazines and looking through websites.

It became a huge thing for me.

I started to become a butterfly, breaking out of the cocoon. And I’ve come to love myself a whole lot more.
